Insurance:
Counselors at TSC are not currently paneled with any insurance providers. TSC Counselors are considered out-of-network mental health providers.  You may request a Superbill from the clinician and turn it into your insurance company to receive a portion of the therapy session fee reimbursed—more on superbills

What is a Superbill?:
"A superbill is a detailed document that allows clients to bill their insurance company directly. It includes information similar to an insurance claims form, such as the date of the service provided, procedure codes, and a total balance due." (icanotes.com)

Once you receive your superbill, you can submit it to your insurance company. Submitting a superbill to your insurance company does not guarantee that you will be reimbursed for the total fee. This LINK offers recommendations on submitting your superbill to your insurance provider. Please remember that your insurance company may have specific instructions on submitting your superbill. You may need 30 days to establish reimbursement with your insurance company ultimately.

Sliding Scale:
Per request, a sliding scale fee ranges from $175.00 per session to $300 for a Licensed therapist, $125-$150 for a Pre-Licensed counselor, and $50 to $90 for a Master's Level Counselor INTERN. This sliding scale is based on gross annual household income and is followed by signing a financial agreement as part of the intake process to determine your sliding scale fee. The sliding scale has limited slots, so slots may not be available at your request. Individuals who qualify for the sliding scale rate will have limited sessions—clients on a sliding scale who a licensed therapist sees have 12 sessions at the sliding scale rate.

Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.

Why do people go to therapy and how do I know if it is right for me?

People have many different motivations for coming to psychotherapy. Some may be going through a major life transition (unemployment, divorce, new job, etc.), or are not handling stressful circumstances well. Some people need assistance managing a range of other issues such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship problems, spiritual conflicts and creative blocks. Therapy can help provide some much needed encouragement and help with skills to get them through these periods. Others may be at a point where they are ready to learn more about themselves or want to be more effective with their goals in life. In short, people seeking psychotherapy are ready to meet the challenges in their lives and ready to make changes in their lives.

What is Therapy like?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. In general, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session. Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term, for a specific issue, or longer-term, to deal with more difficult patterns or your desire for more personal development. Either way, it is most common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist (usually weekly).

It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn in session back into your life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, your therapist may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process - such as reading a pertinent book, journaling on specific topics, noting particular behaviors or taking action on your goals. People seeking psychotherapy are ready to make positive changes in their lives, are open to new perspectives and take responsibility for their lives.

How Often Are Therapy Sessions?

Sessions are a one time a week commit initially with the intent to reduce frequency to bi weekly, monthly and then a last final session. A reduction in session frequency is pending a collaborative clinician and client decision. This is based on treatment progress and success. Once services are completed the door is also open for a client to return and restart services as long as there are session times available.

What the Cancelation Policy (Your Investment Policy)?

Engaging in mental health services is an investment in your total well-being and is most effective and life-changing with consistency and commitment. Your therapeutic hour is held exclusively for you, your family, and or your child. To maintain therapeutic consistency, sessions can be rescheduled per this office's same-week reschedule policy.

What about medication vs. Therapy?

It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what's best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.

Can you testify in court on my, my family or child's behalf?

Currently, no counselors at TSC are certified custody evaluators or classified as expert witnesses, as defined by the legal system. A mental health counselor is not permitted to make any judgments on custody. Counselors at TSC do not testify unless required by a court order signed by a judge. When working with children who are experiencing divorce, it can be detrimental to the therapeutic work with the child when the therapist has a dual relationship (i.e., the therapist is both the mental health counselor and court-ordered to testify). Thus, by best practice standards, the clinician will engage with the family and the child as the mental health counselor and not engage in court proceedings unless court-ordered by a judge. If a counselor is court-ordered to testify, the therapeutic relationship ends with the child, and parents are provided with referrals to other child counselors.
